If you take a look at our list, you’ll notice that a lot of the incidents leading to hospital visits are falls— Over 73,000 hospitalisations are caused by slips, trips, and stumbles on the same level alone, while nearly 48,000 more are due to other falls on flat surfaces. Kids under five are especially vulnerable, with a third of falls coming from furniture and 10 percent from playground equipment. Sadly more than 5400 Australians over 65 will die due to a fall this year. These everyday accidents can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone, which is why knowing basic first aid is so crucial—it can be the difference between a small accident and a major injury. Whether you’re at home, at the park, or on the job, being ready to respond could make all the difference.
