GAP COURSE OPTION: For individuals who are completing a qualification that specifically requires and only accepts the previous unit HLTAID004. Only those who have completed the new HLTAID012 unit are eligible to complete this gap course.

What You'll Learn
This course will give you the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults and applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

- The last step is a short face to face practical assessment

*Approx. 6 hours of online theory and theory assessment with a 30-60 minutes face to face practical assessment with the trainer depending on your background and experience.
*Course may take up to 30-45 mins extra depending on group size and learner's competency level. Smaller groups may finish earlier by up to 30 mins.

Upon successfully completing the HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting, students will receive a Statement of Attainment. It is recommended that this unit be renewed every 3 years in line with industry standards. This course incorporates the contents of four units:
- Full competency in HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting
- Full competency in HLTAID011 Provide first aid
- Full competency in HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
- Full competency in HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Topics covered:
- Asthma & Anaphylaxis
- Stress management techniques and available support following an emergency situation, including the psychological impact on children.
- Infant, child anatomy and physiology and the consequences for provision of first aid.
- First aid requirements for services under the Education and Care Services National Law.
Once booked you will receive an email with details of your chosen assessment location and time. Simply complete the video based online training on your chosen device at your convenience.
Remember:
- Your online learning must be complete before attending your practical assessment.
- All modules will become green when this is finished
- To ensure you are fully prepared and confident for the practical assessment, rewatch the assessable topics carefully just prior to coming in.
When attending your chosen assessment location, on the day, remember to bring:
- Pen
- Form of identification (Drivers License, Passport, Photo I.D. Card, Student card)
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Smart phone for online sign-on

- Your pre-course online learning must be completed before attending the face-to-face training.
When attending your hands-on training day, remember to bring:

For our face-to-face courses, course length will be determined by the group sizes. Should there be fewer students, the course duration may be shortened by up to 10%. If there is a larger group it may be increased by 10%.
Participants must have the physical capacity to establish and maintain first aid facilities.
Participants must be able to use a computer to conduct research on the internet.
This course requires that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR on a CPR manikin placed on the floor for at least 2 minutes.
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
Assessments conducted during face-to-face training sessions include:
Performance tasks The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction)
- Choking with airway obstruction
- Head injury/unconscious breathing casualty
- Bleeding and shock
- Snake or funnel web spider bite
- Sprains and fractures
- Seizures and epilepsy, including febrile convulsions
- Poisoning and toxic substances
Practical scenarios The assessor must observe the following practical scenarios:
- Perform CPR on a child
- Perform CPR on an adult
- Breathing difficulties – Asthma
Documentation The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:
- Incident report forms
Theory assessment
A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
It is recommended that HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting be renewed every 3 years in line with industry standards
What you will receive on successful completion of the course:
HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting, students will receive a certificate that is valid for 3 years from the course completion date.
Your Certificate(s) will be emailed to you on the next business day. If you need it urgently, please contact us at the time of booking via Notes section in your booking.
HLTAID012 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting is a 6.5 hours course providing 4 Units of Competency from the new HLT Health Training Package recorded on your Statement of Attainment.

If a hard copy of the certificate is required, this needs to be requested in advance. An extra $5 will be added for this. Please note hard copies will take up to 30 business days to arrive (based on Australia post).

Pre-booked public courses are not eligible for refunds for missed classes or incomplete workbooks. However, this will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, depending on extenuating circumstances such as medical or family emergencies.
You may change your course date to another date provided you have informed us 48 hours in advance of your original booked date. Any substitute date is subject to availability and must be taken within 2 months of your original booking date. A rebooking fee of $15 for CPR, or $25 for all other courses will be incurred if no notice is given and you need to reschedule on the day of your course.

COMPLETE THE ONLINE MODULES
Complete the video-based online training at home or in the workplace. Modules will turn green when finished.

ATTEND YOUR ASSESSMENT
Your assessment will take approximately 2 hours. You’ll need a black or blue pen, photo ID and comfortable clothing.

TAKE THE PRACTICAL TEST
To pass our First Aid and CPR course, students must perform at least 2 minutes of continual CPR on a CPR manikin on the floor.

RECEIVE YOUR CERTIFICATE
Upon successful completion, you will receive a statement of attainment available for download within your Training Desk Account. This certificate is due for renewal every 3 years.

STUDY THE PRE-COURSE MODULE
Simply complete the short online pre-course learning module after enrolling to prepare you for the in-purpose training course.

ATTEND THE TRAINING COURSE
